Program Description

PhD Position: Theoretical physics of one-dimensional correlated quantum matter

Eighty years ago, the quantum physics of many-body systems was an exotic niche of primarily mathematical interest. This status has fundamentally changed due to the remarkable experimental achievements in the fields of quantum materials and cold atomic gases, notably during the last three decades. The study of quantum particles in restricted geometries has become a pillar of modern low-energy physics, exemplifying how theoretical predictions can be realized in the laboratory and how, in turn, experiments push theoretical studies into entirely new directions.

Project Description

The aim of this doctoral thesis is to theoretically address various questions in one-dimensional many-body systems of quantum particles. This field offers a rich landscape of theoretical challenges, ranging from the study of integrable models and quantum simulation to the investigation of non-equilibrium dynamics. The specific research topic will be determined according to the skills and interests of the selected candidate. Potential areas of study include, but are not limited to: The development and application of effective many-body models. The development of tools to study the Bethe ansatz of one-dimensional models. The study of transport properties and thermalization in quantum systems.

Research Environment

The successful candidate will become a member of the research group specializing in strongly correlated systems at the Laboratory of theoretical physics in Toulouse, working with Zoran Ristivojevic. Our members possess expertise in a broad range of topics in condensed matter, including magnetism, superconductivity, topological matter, and low-dimensional quantum matter. The candidate will learn and master a diverse set of analytical and numerical techniques to address the most pressing problems in the field.

Application Process

Motivated candidates should send an email to zoran.ristivojevic@cnrs.fr including a curriculum vitae and a brief description of their previous research experience. Additionally, candidates should organize for one or two recommendation letters to be sent directly to the same address.

We are not accepting applications for this program through AcademicProgramsOnline.Org right now. Please see the program description above on how to apply.
