Position Description:    

The Mathematics Division of National Center for Theoretical Sciences invite applications for several openings of visiting researchers at all levels (postdoc or assistant, associate and full professors). The positions are open for the research areas of pure mathematics, and computational and applied mathematics, probability, statistical science, and data science

The positions begin from August 1, 2020 for one year, and the position is extendible depending on the performance. Considering the various restrictions imposed by different countries, the actual starting date could be flexible, and we will help the Visiting Researchers obtain visa and working permit in Taiwan.

Priority will be given to 1. those who are holding an academic position but cannot start on time due to the restriction of Covid-19; 2. those who are in sabbatical leaves and are interested in conducting high-quality research in Taiwan.

Candidates for senior visiting researcher should have strong commitment to research and organization. The applicants must be able to conduct high-quality academic activities and cooperate with local research groups.

The annual stipend is up to 40k/60k USD annually for junior and senior visiting researchers respectively. The Visiting Researcher is also eligible for research grant up to 10k USD (subject to the regulation of NCTS).

It is well known that compared with the living quality, the living expense in Taiwan is very low. The medical level in Taiwan is on the world leading level, while the medical expense & insurance system is well known affordable (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/expat-health/11190870/Taiwan-tops-the-expat-health-care-charts.html). The national basic education in Taiwan is 12 years education, and the tuition of the public education is very affordable. The system produces creative students with high performance in the world, especially in mathematics and science. For candidates who cannot speak Mandarin, it is not a problem to live in Taiwan with English—almost everyone in Taiwan, particularly the young generation, can speak English.
